Chips Get Hot…Regenie’s Roars Ahead

Haverhill, MA, July 1, 2008…Low fat, big flavors, pita perfection! Say hello to Regenie’s Crunchy Pita Chips, a snack that’s surging ahead in Shaw’s, Stop & Shop, Sam’s Club, Hannaford’s, and Market Basket. What accounts for our success? Is it one thing or a combination of factors? Naturally, it starts with a great product…but it also includes everything you’d expect from a strong growing company beginning with passion, joy, talent, nights, weekends, hard work, and stubborn determination.

Now before we move ahead, we need to step back and talk about the lady behind the chips, Regina Ragonese. Because it wasn’t that long ago that Regina, in her role as a successful restaurateur, was making pita chips for her customers. Well customers raved…a star was born…and her homemade pita chips became house favorites. Today, Regenie’s is still a powerhouse little pita that sends taste buds soaring.

But what about the future? What does it hold for Regenie’s Crunchy Pitas? At Regenie’s, we’ll continue to make premium, high flavor chips and we’ll contine to introduce new products such as Regenie’s Pita Ritas — an organic delight that sparks up everything from simple salads to gourmet get-togethers. Regenie’s Pita Ritas. Once again, Regenie’s gets it right.

Product Review: Gravel Road Goodies

July 6th, 2008

Product Review - Gravel Road Goodies
7.6.08
Products: Buttermilk Banana Bread, “Dirt Clods”, Little Bits of Gravel Road, Chocolate Gravy, Mud Pie, Peanut Butter Dirt Dobber

Who is Gravel Road Goodies?

Gravel Road Goodies, located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, is a producer of upscale gourmet confections, sweets, and snacks with a Southern “down-home” feel. Gravel Road Goodies currently sells their products online at Etsy.com and iBuyGourmet.com.

Packaging/Labeling: Sometimes the finest things come in the simplest of packages - which is exactly the case with Gravel Road Goodies. All of Gravel Road Goodies’ products come packaged in raffia-filled, brown cardboard boxes and brown paper bags with simple-yet-classy labels describing each item - reflecting a simple Southern homemade look with upscale gourmet quality. Overall, we really liked the presentation and agreed that the unique Southern down-home look really offers a nice break from the cookie-cutter presentations and packaging themes inundating the marketplace.

Taste/Consistency/Quality: With each product we tried from Gravel Road Goodies, it was apparent that no corners were cut when hand-producing these delectable treats. Each product was fresh, rich, and perfect in presentation - reminding us of Mom’s home-cooking as children.

The “Dirt Clods” (the label claims that city folks call them truffles) were absolute perfection; hand made sweet, rich chocolate truffles lightly rolled in semi-sweet cocoa powder that creates a heavenly duo of sweet and dark/bittersweet chocolate. Unlike most mass-produced truffles with waxy consistency, these were a breath of fresh (chocolate) air. Each bite of the smooth and rich “dirt clod” confirmed the fact that only the highest quality ingredients and handmade care was used in making them.

Like the “Dirt Clods”, the mud pie shared an equally impressive combination of rich chocolate taste and perfect texture. Served in a handmade flaky pie crust, these mud pies were extremely rich and moist - leaving us craving more after each bite.

Probably the biggest surprise was the “Little Bites of Gravel Road” - a unique snack/treat made with toasted walnuts and almonds baked in meringue and butter. The result is a very addictive combination of softened almonds and walnuts (with a slight crunch) and a salty/sweet coating of melt-in-your-mouth meringue. Unlike anything else, this snack became an instant favorite and is sure to satisfy anyone’s sweet, salty, and crunchy cravings in one fell-swoop.

Almost as surprising as the “Bites of Gravel Road” was the “Chocolate Gravy” - a dry mix that, when heated in a saucepan with water or milk, creates a rich chocolate sauce with the same consistency of typical gravy. What really makes it so unique is the way in which it is served - over a plate of hot biscuits. The “Gravy” itself was fabulous, but when served over the biscuits even better - creating an entrée that can only bring a smile to your face (for breakfast or as a treat!).

Finally, our unanimous favorite was the Buttermilk Banana Bread - ridiculously moist and rich banana bread that is the best we’d ever had. We got an idea of what was in store when we first unwrapped it; the loaf must have weighed five pounds! This banana bread was so thick and moist that it took a little extra effort when cutting slices, which gave us a nice giggle of excitement before even trying it. This banana bread had it all - delicious banana and buttermilk taste with a baked-to-perfection texture creating a moist and dense loaf of banana bread heaven that we couldn’t get enough of.

Uniqueness: Gravel Road Goodies fared well on the uniqueness scale with their one-of-a-kind “Bites of Gravel Road” snack, dessert-for-breakfast “Chocolate Gravy”, and their wonderful Southern/down-home/gourmet packaging.

Summary: Gravel Road Goodies has created a superb lineup of delectable handmade gourmet products with top-notch quality and freshness, packaged in a very attractive down-home presentation with upscale appeal. Excellent products for gift-giving as well as self-indulgence!

Product Review: Glad Corn’s “A-Maizing” Corn Snack

Product Review - Glad Corn “A-Maizing” Corn Snack
6.18.08
Products: Original, BBQ, Jalapeno, and Gourmet Cheddar Flavors

What is Glad Corn?

What started as a Corn Ethanol experiment in the kitchen of Stan Friesen turned out to be what could become America’s next great snack food. The best description we can come up with is a mixture between regular pop corn, and Corn Nuts.

Packaging/Labeling: Glad Corn is available in 2 sizes for each of their 4 flavors with brightly colored, high-quality, thick bags. We agreed that the packaging allows Glad Corn to be a good fit for any type of store; upscale gourmet food stores, mass market retailers, and convenience stores.

Taste/Consistency/Quality: What makes this product so amazing and unique is the hybrid texture of the products. It’s not quite as soft as traditional popcorn (although some kernels are), yet not as hard on the teeth as a product like Corn Nuts. Somehow with their secret process, Glad Corn has created a delicious combination of fluffy-crunchy goodness that is sure to crave the greatest of salty-snack cravings.

We found the Gourmet Cheddar and Jalapeno flavors to be our favorite with not too much of an over-salty or artificial-flavor taste. The jalapeno provided a nice, mildly-spicy kick, but not so much as to scare off those afraid of burnt taste buds and heartburn. The Gourmet Cheddar hit a home run with a perfect cheese taste that so many snack companies go overboard with, thus drowning out the flavor of the snack’s base itself.

Best of all, when eating Glad Corn, we didn’t get the guilty feeling of eating 2 weeks’ worth of butter or oil that you’d get in popcorn and the dehydrated-thirsty-mouth sensation that comes with too much salt/sodium intake.

Uniqueness: When you think of corn snacks, instantly Corn Nuts, popcorn, and Fritos chips come to mind - and Glad Corn is a nice breath of fresh air in comparison. Never before have we experienced such a pleasant hybrid combination of fluffy and crunchy in a snack food as we did with Glad Corn. We can, with confidence, say that there is nothing else like Glad Corn on the market right now.

Summary: Glad Corn gets our “Snack Food Innovator” nomination for surprising us with a must-have snack product that really brings a smile to your ‘sick-of-the-same-old-stuff’, snack-hungry face.

How to purchase: Consumers can order directly online at www.GladCorn.com, www.iBuyGourmet.com, or in several retail location which can be found at Glad Corn’s website.
