What is Chocolate Prescription?Chocolate Prescription is an emerging, woman owned business located in Plano Texas with a truly one-of-a-kind chocolate product that really stands out in a crowded chocolate and confections category.
Chocolate Prescription is really more than just a chocolate product; as their name implies, Chocolate Prescription offers one week and four week prescriptions of delectable dark chocolate bars. The idea behind Chocolate Prescription is that you are able to indulge in chocolate every day but without the guilt associated with eating sweets every day. These chocolate prescriptions are 72 % cacao dark chocolate bars conveniently packaged in 1 ounce servings so you can still satisfy your chocolate cravings while still managing a moderate level of caloric intake.
Packaging/Labeling: Chocolate Prescription gets a solid A+ for their cleverly designed, elegant packaging. The boxes are a slender and long with a soft white metallic finish - very classy and rich. Inside each prescription box, the actual chocolate bars are lined up in a row from left to right with the top flap opening up to show each day for the corresponding bar. The 4 week prescription was very impressive with disposable trays stacked on top of each other containing the 4 weeks’ supply of chocolate bars. (See the video review for visual clarification).
Inside the package was a very classy bi-fold brochure explaining how the chocolate prescription is intended to be used, along with specific product information. Also, a very elegant, metallic-finished greeting card was hand-written for a very personal touch. Without even trying the chocolate itself, the packaging had enough ‘wow-factor’ to make it great gift alone.
Packaging Ranking: 10/10
Taste/Consistency/Quality: The first thing that came to mind when reading ‘dark chocolate’, and ‘indulge in the chocolate without the guilt..‘ was that the chocolate must be very bland and/or bitter. Within seconds of eating the first bite, those concerns were instantly erased from our minds. Chocolate Prescription obviously uses high quality gourmet chocolate and ingredients to create this silky smooth dark chocolate. Surprisingly, there wasn’t much bitterness at all - as was expected. At the same time, it wasn’t too sweet and loaded with sugar, creating a perfect happy-medium.
What we were most pleased with is how satisfying the 1 ounce serving size was. For someone who is trying to eat sensibly but can’t give up chocolate, Chocolate Prescription makes it easy and fulfilling to still indulge in a daily dose of chocolate - only at the expense of 155 calories. After eating one bar, we agreed that we weren’t really desiring more - while at the same time not feeling like we would have cheated on any diets (we can’t really diet with this job!).
Uniqueness: Chocolate is probably one of the most fiercely competitive categories in the gourmet and specialty food industry, and true innovators are hard to come by. Without a doubt, Chocolate Prescription is definitely an innovator with a clever approach. Not only can Chocolate Prescription appeal to the everyday chocoholic seeking a delectable chocolate treat, they can also tap into a booming segment of health-conscious gourmands. Considering that their target market is likely women between the ages of 35-65 - which happens to be the same demographic most concerned with weight and health issues - we’d say that Chocolate Prescription is positioned to really make a splash and win over a large customer base. We are yet to see a chocolate or confections company take the same approach (and pull it off as well as Chocolate Prescription).
Summary: Chocolate Prescription gets an A+ for stunning packaging and presentation, a deliciously balanced chocolate product, and a truly unique concept with enormous growth potential. Great product for anyone looking to manage their sweets intake, and one of the best gift items we’ve seen in years!
